A Biosphere Reserve since 1978, with 30,120 hectares of beech woods, holm oaks and streams. The area's natural garden.
Montseny Natural Park covers 30,120 hectares spread across eighteen municipalities in Osona, La Selva and the Vallès Oriental. UNESCO declared it a Biosphere Reserve in 1978, and its highest peak, the Turó de l'Home, reaches 1,706 metres.
Because of its altitude and the changes in humidity and temperature, in just a few kilometres you go from Mediterranean holm oaks to beech and fir forests that look like northern Europe. It is home to the Montseny brook newt, a small amphibian found nowhere else in the world.
From many villages in the area, the Montseny is a short drive away: walks at the weekend, chestnuts in autumn and the odd snowy day in winter. Living nearby means nature on your doorstep and Barcelona half an hour away.
